Pre-Requisites for Endorsement
- CISSP Exam Pass: Successfully pass the CISSP examination.
- Experience: Have a minimum of 5 years of cumulative, paid, full-time work experience in two or more of the eight domains of the CISSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
- Note:
- A one-year experience waiver is available if you have a four-year college degree or regional equivalent, or an approved credential from the (ISC)² approved list.
- If you do not yet possess the education and/or experience required for the certification, you can request to be an Associate of ISC2, which requires only that you pass the credential exam.
Endorsement Steps (Overview)
- Get Started - Click New Endorsement Application.
- Certification Type - Select the certification that you are requesting for endorsement.
- Membership Type - Choose your ISC2 membership type based on experience.
- Request Endorsement - Make sure to have your endorser's ISC2 Member Number.
- Experience Waiver - If applicable, request an Experience Waiver.
- Job History - Detail your experience.
- Review Application - Review all information before submitting the Endorsement Application.
Endorsement Steps (Details)
- Endorser Requirement:
- Locate a current (ISC)² credential holder who can attest to your professional experience.
- The endorser must be an (ISC)² member in good standing.
- This person can attest to your assertions regarding professional experience/education.
- Prepare Documentation:
- Compile all necessary documents proving your work experience.
- This can include employment contracts, project outlines, etc.
- Complete Endorsement Form:
- Fill out the official endorsement assistance form available on the (ISC)² website.
- The form will ask for details such as your experience, endorser details, and other professional credentials.
- Endorser Verification:
- Your endorser reviews your professional experience and submits the endorsement form for you.
- The endorser may require proof of employment, job descriptions, or any other material that substantiates your claim of experience.
- Submit Application:
- Submit the endorsement application online through the (ISC)² website’s endorsement system.
- Some applicants may be randomly selected for audit, so ensure all information is accurate and verifiable.
- Review Period:
- (ISC)² typically takes 4–6 weeks to process your endorsement.
- During this time, they may reach out for additional documentation or clarification.
- Audit Possibility:
- If you are selected for an audit, you must provide additional proof for verification.
- Failing to meet the audit requirements could lead to revocation of the exam pass status.
- Endorsement Approval:
- Upon successful review and any potential audit, you’ll receive official notification that your CISSP endorsement has been approved.
- Membership Activation:
- After endorsement, you become an (ISC)² member, and you'll have to abide by their Code of Ethics and pay the Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF).
- Continuous Professional Education (CPE) Credits:
- After endorsement, you’re required to earn CPE credits annually to maintain the certification.

Group A / B Credits
CPE Credit Requirements
- Total CPEs Required:
- A CISSP is required to earn a total of 120 CPE credits over a three-year certification cycle.
- Annual Minimum Requirement:
- A minimum of 40 CPE credits must be earned each year.
Group A Credits
- Definition:
- Group A CPE credits relate directly to activities in one or more of the eight domains of the CISSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
- Quantity Required:
- There is no set minimum number of Group A credits required annually, but they are generally the focus.
- You could technically earn all your annual and three-year total CPEs (40 annually, 120 for the three-year cycle) in Group A.
- Types of Activities:
- Attending cybersecurity webinars, conferences, or training sessions.
- Writing articles or books related to CISSP domains.
- Volunteer work in the cybersecurity field, related to CISSP domains.
- Reporting:
- Must be reported through the (ISC)² online CPE portal, including sufficient proof or documentation for the activity.
Group B Credits
- Definition:
- Group B CPE credits are earned for activities that indirectly relate to the CISSP domains or contribute to professional development.
- Quantity Required:
- There is no minimum number of Group B credits required annually.
- The focus is usually on Group A, but any credits beyond the minimum requirement for Group A can come from Group B.
- Types of Activities:
- Learning a new language.
- Management or soft skills training.
- Other IT-related work not covered in the CISSP CBK.
- Reporting:
- Also reported through the (ISC)² online CPE portal, with necessary documentation.
Important Notes
- Flexibility:
- Credits can be a mix of Group A and Group B activities.
- Submission Deadline:
- CPE credits must be submitted before the certification’s expiry date, which occurs every three years.
- Audit:
- Be prepared for a potential audit by keeping records and documentation of all CPE activities.
